Partner Nelson Thomas Interviewed About University of Rochester Sexual Misconduct Investigation
Nelson Thomas spoke to Spectrum News about the investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against University of Rochester (University) professor Florian Jaeger. Mr. Thomas spoke to Spectrum News after the release of an independent investigation report by former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Mary Jo White, who was hired by the University to conduct an investigation. The report found that although Mr. Jaeger and the University exercised poor judgment, they did not violate the law or campus policy on sexual misconduct. The report went on to make a number of recommendations regarding policy changes in order to “enhance the University’s sexual harassment compliance program.” Mr. Thomas noted that the investigation cost the University $4.5 million dollars, and the matter brought campus-wide protests and turmoil throughout the University. Nine individuals filed a federal lawsuit in December 2017 against the University of Rochester alleging retaliation for reporting sexual misconduct. The federal lawsuit is still in the early stages.
